We could do this fairly easily. How would you suggest the calculation be done? "Input your old vehicle fuel efficiency here?"

Yeah, that would work. In the list of vehicle statistics add the lines "gallons saved by driving this car (as compared to the vehicle set as the comparison vehicle)" and "total fuel savings by driving this car (as compared to the vehicle set as the comparison vehicle)."

I LOVE this idea! Please implement it. To me this is a very important figure to throw out at office parties and such to try to get more people to consider being more efficient with their vehicles.

Okay, I gotta break out the notes I took when I coded that part of the garage on my old computer, hopefully I can get the new feature online tomorrow.

One wrench to throw in... In my case, I replaced a vehicle that that required premium fuel with one that takes regular... further increasing my savings. I definitely like the idea of having "replaced vehicle" option in the garage, but it still wouldn't be useful unless I could at least enter an average per gallon fuel price for the replaced vehicle (if the field is blank, use the current vehicle's average). This would probably be particularly useful for those that replace a gasoline vehicle with a diesel.

30000 miles
Current: 60 mpg
EPA: 33 mpg
Old vehicle: 17 mpg suburban
Saved vs "normal" driving: $1100, 408 gallons
saves vs suburban: 1265 gallons, $3403
Wow.

So maybe for the premium thing we could have a feature that could be clicked to add $0.35 per gallon since that's about what it is here vs. regular. The option to insert the alternative price at each fill-up for the comparison vehicle would be pretty nice to have. If you don't enter in the alternative price it would automatically assume you'd be using the same fuel in the comparison vehicle.

Holy crap man, I could buy another Geo for what you saved compared to the EPA rating and I could buy a small fleet of Geo's for your savings vs. the suburban.

Yes, even a way to add a delta per gallon would be useful... though it would need to be able to handle negative deltas too... around here, diesel is more expensive than regular unleaded ...
