With as reliable as the Mirages have been, that sounds like a good deal despite the high miles.

^ They dropped the asking price to $2k on that Mirage last week. And it still hasn't sold.

UPDATE! One of the Mirage forum members who lived close to the seller picked it up for $1900! The seller was legit and honest - and despite the high miles, it needs no mechanical repairs.

I was prepared to go get it -- even tentatively organized a road trip with my sister-in-law whose good friend lives near there, so happy impromptu visit for the co-driver!

But I got bad vibes from the seller - he selectively answered questions, skipping some important ones (like oil change frequency & maintenance records).

11 hours round-trip is too far to go kick tires, even at that price.

Another Darin-priced Mirage will come up closer to home, eventually.

Update: passed 150,000!

Update to this thread: As of last month, Mitsu has unloaded 150k+ of these fuel-sipping little puddle jumpers in the States. 156,188 to be precise.

That means the bargains are now 50% more abundant!

Since I first posted this thread with the 100k milestone, I've bought two cheap Mirages: Fancy Metro and Even Fancier Metro.

But I'm still on the hunt for another one because those first two were loaded, and I covet the less popular Canadian base model that came without A/C and has the factory aero wheel covers instead of the chunky air-blender alloys (which weight the same as the steelies).

The company has sold 17,988 of them north of the 49th, so I do see screaming good deals popping up in my email alerts every few months.

Example! I would buy this one today if it weren't a 10-hour round trip from here:

Scratch 'n' dent special, 2015 base 5-speed, 1-owner, with only 77,000 km = 48k miles. Asking price: $2400.

I asked AutoTempest for manual Mirages within 300 miles and the only ones under $5,000 were this 2014 with 86,000 miles for $4,400 in Albuquerque, this 2014 with 107,000 miles at a dealership in Costa Mesa, California for $4,800, and this 2015 with 86,000 miles at a dealership in Aurora Colorado for $4,941

Aurora is 245 miles away, but Aurora is almost 700!

Patience, grasshopper.

The screaming deals I have seen/acted on have only cropped up about once every 3-6 months or so. I have a daily email alert set up for ads within 1000 km of me.

That said, there's a guy on the Mirage forum in the States who has bought & sold a few cheap Mirages, and he says there seem to be more cheap ones in Canada than he sees in the States. Not sure what region he lives in.

He may be right: I just did a search within 500 km (300 mi.) under $5k, and got 25 results.

Cheapest is a base 2015 with low kms and rear end collision damage for $2495.

There are 3 others with high kms under $3k.

5 more between $3k and $4500

Most of these are in/around western Quebec, where people buy more little economy cars than anywhere else in the entire country. "Quebec Special" is an actual slightly derogatory name for base model econoboxes in general.

Do you think the garbage can that Mirage hit survived?

The Mirage probably took the worst of the hit. Mirage sheetmetal is prone to damage from a strong gust of wind.
