On an LSx V8 that already makes over 300 ft-lbs from 1500 RPM to 6500+ RPM, that means 1100 HP is possible, and real world builds prove the theory.
And you are still gaining just as much midrange torque as you would if you tried what this article proposes. His ideas would not win any races, nor offers any mpg advantages, nor in the case of the LS does his plan offer any extra durability. It doesn't help emissions nor driveability to try it his way, either.
And if this is typical of the guy you are sad about, then good riddance.
Is this the Prius turbo article?

Did you even read the entire series?

He managed to turbocharge a stock Prius, improving economy AND performance at the same time.

The whole point of the exercise was to improve daily usability while not sacrificing economy. That's why he didn't use a supercharger.

He used the early-first-generation Japan-only Prius, which he was able to purchase and install a turbo for significantly less than the later-first-generation worldwide Prius, but that Prius still had better power and fuel economy than his modified JDM one.

More to the point, it's the end of J.Edgar's stint as Editor, not the site as a whole.
