BBC reporter drives the new VW Polo Bluemotion 566 miles, gets 50 mpg (US)
Video report:

I was hoping this would be a good news report, but it left a few big questions unanswered:
Reporter drives it from Wolfsburg to London through 5 countries on one tank of fuel. It's supposed to get 70 MPG (Imperial), and have the lowest CO2 emissions of any new car in Europe.
But when he gets to London, he only tells us how much it cost to fill up, not the volume of fuel used or how fast he went. Doofus.
Drove 566 miles on 37 pounds.
I found a
website that showed diesel average in London yesterday was .875/liter.
If that's the case, he bought 42.3L / 9.32 gal (Imp)
= 60.8 mpg (Imp)
= 50.1 mpg (US)
= 4.65 L/100 km
