You've caught some nice specimens there. I love me a wedge shaped car!

Slipknotv, you really need to flip the overlay 180 degrees.

I say this because I suspect many (not all) of these designs do just as well in either direction.

I've enjoyed viewing your exercise, I encourage you to take it to the next level.

Once you have flipped the overlay to proper orientation, perhaps a study of plan views would be in order.

In the exotic category at least, I'm noticing more template adherence of the canopy area (ie... Ford GT + Jag F-Type?).

I doubt any of the wedge cars conform to the template in plan view in either direction, but I could be wrong. The Lancia Stratos production car (not the concept car - Zero) might be one exception when looking at canopy alone.

EDIT: A forgotten wedge car? It's not a Fiat - hint.

A wedge nose is the opposite of low drag. The ideal template only is ideal with the BLUNT nose on the front.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a wedge nose acts as a deflector or diverter in which the air pressure for air mass adhesion is not allowed to build up to sufficient levels.

The result is that the first thing after the nose the air mass hits is the windshield, making windshield design all the more important.

I'm just floating thoughts out there.

Because of radiator grill openings and other design flaws, the heavy lifting of pressure build up is done by the windshield typically?

Example of my thoughts expressed in form: Saab 99 Turbo

"do you have the original of that?"

People [over-]simplify The Template to "a 12° angle". There's no compound curvature to your examples.

Here's where it all falls apart. My interest would be in the relative volumes of a wedge and teardrop of equivalent drag.
