2000 Avalon hit 31.6 mpg

In my 2000 Avalon I would average anywhere between 23-26 mpg. Tried some hypermiling techniques and first tank was 30.1 second was 30.2 and this tank I was very happy with 31.6 mpg. Not too bad for a V6 4 speed auto and a 3,400 lb car. EPA rates it at 21 city and 29 hwy.

Not bad at all!

I once managed 36mpg in one, but that was all downhill from Tahoe to Sacramento. Hardly a fair comparison.

I've got a 99 Avalon and typically manage around 30mpg. Seems to vary a bit with the seasons as well. I'm thinking a block heater would help keep MPG up in the winter time.

Also these are super easy to modify cars. And super dependable as well. Mine just rolled over 308,000 miles. Never had a single mechanical issue since new, original everything except wear parts. Heated seats still work. A/C still works albeit a bit weak. Great cars they are.

MPG numbers

Glad to see true MPG numbers. I understand the Hyper-mileage page is for extreme numbers, but I want to see what other REAL drivers get in REAL driving situations. I am building a British sportscar with an 85 Ford Mustang 2.3 inline 4-cylinder. The motor is built for Torque which usually translates into better MPG at true driving speeds. The trans is an A4LD 4-speed overdrive with a .75 4th gear. I bought 14" wheels/tires that are about 1.5" taller than the original 13" to gain a little Distance-Per-Revolution. With a modified points ignition, a 2-barrel Autolite carb, tubing header, and better cam, I hope to get mid 30's in a 2500 pound Sunbeam Alpine.
