This reaffirms that the Smart ED was appropriately named.

I don't know how VW managed to make a slower version.

I've got no need of an EV to exceed 90 MPH, but I would like it to get to max speed quickly for passing purposes.

That's the beauty of their motor torque. You don't need launch control. ' pretty much 100% rated torque at any rpm.

That's not actualy the topspeed of the E-Golf, that's the topspeed in the E-Golfs Eco+ mode.
And even that gets exceeded when you use the kickdown.
The actual topspeed (electronicly limited) is 150 km/h, wich is 94 mph

That's just the driving mode, not a different car.
You can set it to normal, eco or eco+
It's kind of confusing to mention the driving modes of one car in such a list.

I suspect these vehicles are speed limited not power limited.
The leaf is speed limited to 94mph, but is only drawing about 40kw.
At 94mph the motor is spinning around 10,000rpm and will explode if it goes much faster.
So the speeds of many of these vehicles is not a limit of power and aerodynamic drag.

speed limited

Yep. Throughout the literature you see 'governed', 'governed', 'governed'.

Those eco modes annoy me almost as much as sport mode for most of these EVs in that they rarely improve efficiency, and usually only make the skinny pedal less responsive. Same story with sport mode for most EVs. On the Bolt, sport mode doesn't affect max power or top speed. What it does is make a non-linear throttle such that you get less precise control in the first and last portions of pedal travel.

Funny that the Golf actually limits top speed in Eco+ mode, as if we're incapable of controlling top speed without a mode.
