Some of the folks over at Cummins Forum are noting warm up time quite a bit quicker and to higher temps (using a scan tool to read the stock sensor).

Must be on the 6.7L threads . . got a link? AH64ID at CF is, on the subject of the stock block heater, fond of saying: "90% of the benefit in 90-minutes".

As to aftermarket: The posts & threads I've bookmarked or recalled specifically recommended HOTSTART Thermosiphon : railroad, oil field, power generation, etc. Big equipment and little fleet trucks (like ours).

What your block heater can do in 2 hours my car can do in under minute by itself. Is it really worth the extra electricity usage?

For probably 10 cents/hr it is worth it, if not plugged in to excess.

I plug my stock block heater everyday, there's around 40 degrees difference between the outside temps and the engine temps after 10 sec running. The heater is on a 2hr timer

I get heat much faster and operating temps comes up 1-2 minutes faster.

I would really like to get a tank type heater but I can't find any that fit my car

I don't know, but it does save gas, and it also saves on engine wear and tear. And if you want heat and defrost right away that works better too.

P.S. 1 1/2 hrs per day isn't 40 cents, it's <15 cents.

Agreed. I think just from a cost of electricity vs cost of fuel it's probably about even, but I figure the wear and tear benefit turns it into an overall benefit.

It also depend from your fuel/electricity cost.

I'm paying around 5$ a gallon but electricity is 7c/kw so it's probably well worth it for me
