bought a 2004 echo base manual last week
Just found this site, my target is 50mpg. So far on my first tank of fuel waiting to see what mpg numbers return when I fill it. I Average 2000km per month. For now I'm gliding down hills and keeping revs as low as possible. Then onto the grille blocks and underbody air smoothing with a warm air intake.

Welcome to the site and congrats on a good car. Keep us up to date and please make a garage entry ('garage' link up top) and fuel log for the vehicle.

My average speed only increases when gravity allows. I'm stuck at near 50-50 city hwy with bad city traffic. So far the fuel gauge says I've burned 1/3 (guessing 15-17L) of the tank @330km. I'm impressed. My Lexus (sold today) could never get near this. I'm used to gas guzzling cars. The echo is a welcome relief and challenge

Blow the tires up, short shift it, and coast yer arse off. Learn the light timing on your usual routes. 50 should be fairly easy at those speeds, but you might need a block heater for winter.

We forgot the first thing: get an SG or a UG immediately!

Welcome. Your easiest, low hanging fruit still is the tire pressure boost Old Mech noted and the gauge Fat Charlie just recommended. Tire pressure is free. A UG (UltraGauge) is $70 US. But the UG will pay for itself in a few tanks, and it can help you detect engine trouble, and allows you to read engine trouble codes that explain what set off the check engine liht when it happens. I'd do those before a bellypan.
Good luck.
