The box wine of oil

SuperTech or Havoline oil in a 12-quart box. Full synthetic and Dexos1 rated for $48.

Why am I just finding out about this now? It would have saved me some money, plus less plastic packaging.

Walmart brand is pretty well known. Actually, I always look as low as I can on a shelf to see what value everyone else is missing.

Ever visit bobistheoilguy.com?

Yep, quite a bit. But I've never seen oil in a cardboard box at Walmart before. Or maybe I just wasn't looking.

Oh! I knew about Supertech, but I didn't know you were being literal about it coming in a box.

I haven't bought oil in a couple years. I tend to go on a hoarding spree when there's a sale on synthetic and get a few years supply.

I have never seen oil in a cardboard box. Was it implemented as a cost-saving measure or just virtue-signalling regarding those claims against the usage of plastics?

I'm pretty sure it was for cost savings. Most people who care about carbon footprints probably aren't buying 12 quarts of oil

*edit: well I guess now it's $40 for the twin pack... lame

That super tech is actually gen2 rated

I care, but the F 250 uses 15 1/2 quarts with a new filter generally once a year. The four gallon jugs are now empty hazardous waste in my jurisdiction no matter how clean they are. We won't even discuss the insulin shipment packages I get.

Last time there was a great deal on oil and there was so much I didn't buy it all was 2017 and 2018. That was the last time Walmart and tractor supply had a good section of clearance oils and it ran out last year.
