Almost every convenience store has Prestone DOT3 and DOT4 (fairly significant difference in price), and Walmart has Supertech DOT3 and DOT4 which are almost the same price. The Supertech is so cheap you might as well put the DOT 4 in.

We use DOT 5 in our 30 year old Grumman LLV mail trucks that seldom see 55 miles per hour. It's $38 for 32 ounces in the Napa brand. The mechanic of course charges us $70 for that amount when he does a flush putting on a new master cylinder.

Either way, Tesla should not be trying to save $30 on a $140,000 car.

More than Tesla trying to save less than 1% of the retail price of the car, seems like it's more the owner's fault, as it had been a salvaged car with the brakes not properly mantained.
