If a specific engine is quite underpowered for a given model, such as the 2.0L 4G63 used in some versions of the Mitsubishi L200 pickup and L300 van, a turbo can make miracles due to the torque increasement thru a broader RPM band.
We might not forget the effects of turbocharging into Diesel engines and how it increased their overall efficiency...
