As light as your truck is, I don't think it matters if it is a turbo or not.

As far as the best engine, get what you can. Perkins, cummins, kubota, vw, doesn't really matter as long as you can get a tranny to bolt up to it.
You can get adapter plates for just about any combination now days.
Look in the local parts yards for diesel motors. Go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure it is ok. You might need to replace bearings and rings, but that is easy on those diesels. Look for a bread truck or something similar in your local wrecking yards, they have cummins 4bt's in them and those will run forever with no maintenance.

i'd suggest using the 4t60(4t65) that came with the 3800; 3t40's grenade behind the 3800's even with upgrades.

modifying axle shafts is easy to make the 4t60 fit.

ps. this is coming from someone who contemplated it for his fiero.

op; sorry for getting off topic

It matters to me if it's a turbo. (It will be) supposed to makeup first junkyard trip in ATL tomorrow so we'll see what's in stock.
