Just had a thought inspired from that. Why have a trailer when a boat already has way more structural integrity than it needs to withstand towing? Have retractable wheels and a removable tow point, and it should be fairly optimal for towing or sailing. Heck, make a bulbous bow to accommodate the hitch attachment and you might gain efficiency.

Different mediums of travel which have different coefficient of drag. Most of boat drag is the water, most of trailer drag is topside air

So it's obvious. A boat that turns turtle for towing.

That could have a definitely positive effect for day boats, but a cabin cruiser, I dunno

I was thinking of something like an enclosed lifeboat/semisubmersible. Definitely not a sailboat, although I suppose you could step the mast.

It's been a while since I posted this. It was added to an album in 2014:

It was designed as an ice fishing hut for an architecture class in college, but would work as an outhouse. I think the drawback as an ice fishing hut is that slush kicked up on the underside would freeze the door shut.

Or no towing at all, like the Tatuíra fishing boat.

If it's cold enough in Detroit to be on the river, slush wasn't an issue.

Another one of those old Brazilian coupé-utilities from the '80s converted to double-cab, mostly for a tax break but they ended up having the same footprint of a compact car, yet the open pick-up bed still provided some versatility. No wonder examples such as this '89 Ford Pampa are still soldiering on. This one has the receiver for a removable tow hitch BTW...
