Awesome, I am glad you are proving it out. There are way more people 10 to 20% below EPA than I am sure people like you. I still think the EPA testing needs to be adjusted to match the latest tech the C Max and others use.
Question: What is your seat of the pants reasoning why you are getting this good MPG, just in general, as compared to others, or EPA? Your style, your climate, your discipline behind the wheel, your route, your mods (if any) or a combo or something else? Does the car help you drive better, does it have coaching tools etc.?
Thanks!

I think we will find that the more efficient cars get, the more people that will complain that the EPA numbers are too optimistic. Toyota did a great job of designing their system around the premise that drivers will drive lazy and inefficiently. It is designed to take away the least efficient part of a car moving down the road. Honda's first tries at hybrids, the Insight, Civic and Accord, all had systems to minimize fuel use under light load. It failed because drivers paid no attention to staying in lean burn (or 3 cylinder mode in the Accord's case). Drivers who paid attention got great fuel economy. The rest complained that the manufacturers were being deceptive. Good to hear the C Max can do what the EPA says it can. Drivers just need to adjust the nut behind the wheel a bit.

My car is totally stock. I have not added anything as of yet.
It does, indeed, have coaching. If you pay attention to the coaching aids, that is one major contribution to high MPG. The other thing is that I drive mostly 35mph in town. Also, I drive long distances. The engine does not have time to cool down between trips (I do appliance repair and this is my service vehicle). Those things help. Beyond that, I have just learned how to drive to maximize things. The other day, I drove 156 miles and ended the day at an indicated 60.1mpg........

Here is my best day ever. I have this car pretty much figured out. This was done on premium fuel with no mods what-so-ever.

Very nice. Start a fuel log here though! I'd like to see the ups and downs from season to season, not just the best summer mileage (which will still probably go up from here).

My winter mileage at zero degrees is 42mpg consistantly.
My lifetime mileage is 45.3mpg currently due to buying the car in November.

That's really good. Wife's C-Max is at 42.6 and climbing. Her daily commute is about 90% freeway (posted 65mph).

At this point (30,000 miles) I am at 47.7 lifetime mpg and still climbing fast.
Most days I average 59 to 60mpg.
