Chevy Cruze Recall... Modify the windtray.
Big Recall For GM's Small Chevy Cruze - Forbes
They basically cut the center section out of the undertray to prevent oil buildup, which of course subtracts from the aero of the piece. I wonder if you can opt out of the recall? You know, maybe just clean the oil off the bottom when you change it?

What about just drilling a smallish hole for the oil to drain out?

It always blew my mind but that could be the recall fix. Onrecalls like this the company tends to do the least expensive repair possible. You know the money thing.

Drill several 1/4 inch holes, problem solved, aero saved. A single smaller hole could plug with dirt/oil mix.

I guess they're thinking long term when these guys start developing oil leaks.
Counterpoint: If you have any oil around the holes, its still oil around the hot stuff...

Decades ago,a study was undertaken,in which it was discovered that if certain attorneys were paid $500,000 a year not to practice law,that it would ultimately save the U.S.economy umpteen $billions a year.Every year.
Auto makers are already gambling with shareholder money every time they introduce a new model.They probably aren't willing to stride directly into a class-action product-liability lawsuit.

I've heard that for every 10 engineers in Japan there is 1 lawyer. For every 10 lawyers in the United States there is 1 engineer.
If true then it explains a lot,

Reminds me of a Ferrari(?) recall where the plastic inside wheel cover comes loose and melts/catches fire on the exhaust (or brakes?!?! Me can't remember).

gm is just trying to save their collective ass again; ie. they don't want another fiero engine fire(260 of 370168) or vega fused engine sized problem

I have seen quite a bit of oil on many 4X4's skid plate, I have yet to see one catch fire because of it even with the exhaust running pretty close to some. For us it falls under basic maintenance to keep them cleaned up to a reasonable degree. (and just for the record, most of us also try to keep the leaks patched up.)
