Chicago CL 93 Civic VX - thinking of buying

So another VX is up for sale in Chicagoland on craigslist and I am wondering what people's consensus is on this posting. I don't think I can post links yet, but the title is "93' Honda Civic Hatch Rust Free (Cali Car) - $2000 (Palatine)" and it looks like an honest to goodness, VX, albeit gutted. The only thing I am concerned about it is all the wording at the end. Who does that with legitimate intentions?

Anything else in the posting a red flag?

Thanks.

Looks like alot of the parts that make a VX a good hyper miller are swapped out. For example, the gear box out of a Y8 is going to have shorter gears, and the intake manifold off of the Y8 has larger intake runners and throttle body, so that probably is only going to help with top end power, not low end torque.

Same goes for the removal of the stoke exhaust with the built in cat. Lets just hope it still has the 5 wire wide band oxygen sensor.

Also the awesome light weight rims are gone and it looks like the front spoiler might be gone as well, probably do to a front end accident.

Overall if you are willing to hunt for a long time to find all the parts to put it back to stock go for it. I would look for a cleaner more complete example. This one looks like it has been "modified" for more performance which usually means it was beaten on really hard to make alot of noise but still be slow.

Thanks. Everytime I come across one of these local ads I learn more and more of what to look out for. I really appreciated all the detail. Why can't people just leave a good thing along.

On top of everything that bengry said, you really dont want a true cali car. It will have 4 wire o2 (5 wire is what you want), no green shift light, and ECU that does not work with lean burn. This would be considering everything is OEM, and clearly that car was own by some punk teen.

skyl4rk has the right idea with 92 Honda Civic VX HB

This is the only one worth looking at IMO, looks to be a clean un modified car. But it is in KS

And his price is reasonable consider some teeny has not gotten a hold of it.

(BTW I can't post links yet until I hit 5 plus post)
