The more people/sq in., the more necessary and onerous regulation becomes. But evidently we like it that way.

It's one of those self selecting things. The people that really don't like it just move away.

But they are still subject to the onerous regulation.

Yes. The current system is keeping OUT the most efficient vehicles.

Then they move farther away. Sooner or later someone can find someplace w/o the regulations if they want to.

What always amazes me is when people who live in a crowded area want to impose their laws and taxes on us who live rural where we enjoy independence from some of the bureaucracy. I cringe at paying tax knowing that some of the money is being used for public transportation and funding art projects. None of it is needed or wanted in our neighborhood.

I am starting to rant and go off topic.

I think you'll find it's the "crowded areas" taxes that support the rural areas subsidies. United States Federal Tax Dollars -

California gets 0.78 per dollar paid in taxes back from the Federal government, and Illinois gets 0.75 per dollar.

Who gets the most? New Mexico 2.03, Mississippi 2.02, Alaska 1.84, and 29 other states get more federal tax dollars given to them than what they pay into the US coffers.

Besides... looking at your state tax burden chart, Illinois has that same shade of red representing it's state tax burden. Imagine how that might look if there wasn't a great big sucking sound of federal tax dollars going across our borders.

We're both in the same sinking boat my friend.
