Civic VX Wheels on Tercel?

I have a set of VX alloys sitting around, so I thought maybe I would try them out on my 91 Tercel. Bolt circle is the same, but the center bore for the Tercel is 54.1mm and the CB for the VX is 56.1mm. I realize that 4 bolt wheels rely on the center bore in order to stay centered, but has anyone tried it without some kind of spacer? I guess if the wheel was tightened while the car was in the air and had no weight on the wheel it should be centered properly just by the wheel studs?

I thought that VW is the only company that relys on the center of the hub to center the wheel, everyone else uses the wheel studs.
If they are not centered it's going cause them to out of balance and that is something you are going to notice right away once you get up to highway speeds, the car will shake violently.

You might want to use Honda lug nuts. The Toyota lug nuts have a conical seat and Honda uses a ball seat.

Get hubcentric rings. I have VX wheels on my Aspire, which has the same center bore as your Tercel. Here's where I got mine: Hub Rings / Spigot rings for wheels 4,75

Second on the ball seat/acorn type lug bolts. I also noticed the VX rims were thicker, so I ordered some of these to compensate for the lost threading: Gorilla Automotive 18175C - Gorilla Lug Bolts - Overview - SummitRacing.com
However, check your lug bolt's threading to make sure you're getting the right type of bolts.

I have trailer wheels on my ford ranger and the center hole on them are about an inch bigger than the stock ranger wheels and The only time I ever had a problem was once when i put them on with an imPact gun. I could tell right away that it was on crooked so it wasn't really dangerous or anything. The lug nuts are tapered in on the inside so they will center the stud to the lug holes on the wheel. I've been running those wheels for 4 years with only that one Problem.

Ok thanks everyone. I remember we used to have the same issue with aftermarket race wheels on 5.0 Mustangs as they were 4 bolt pattern as well. If you hit them with an impact gun, you knew right away if they weren't on centered! And thanks for the link to the rings AeroModder, I knew they existed but had no idea where to get them.
