Constant load cruise mod

I am currently a student in an Engineering Design and Devolpment, Project Lead the Way class. As my final project, I have decided to improve cruise control by adding a mode where engine load instead of speed would be the constant. This mod woul be somehtinbg that piggybacks on the stock GM cruise. I would be testing this system on my personal car, a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 liter 5 speed with factory cruise. I need to have a survey to prove my idea is good and going in exactly the right direction. Thank you for your responses.

That's pretty cool. Has anyone done any work on retrofitting a homebrew cruise control into a Drive-By-Wire throttle system? Is it possible?
(my wife's 2005 Ford Crown Vic is DBW and has no cruise control... it was a Police Interceptor model)

Interesting, but that doesn't work on a factory cruise module where nothing is adjustable.

Thought: Use a universal cruise kit to operate the throttle pedal directly.
