Convert Plastic Into Oil

Hello -

(Maybe this belongs in the Lounge?)

One of my pals sent this to me. What do you think?

Man Invents Machine To Convert Plastic Into Oil
Quote:
The machine produced in various sizes, for both industrial and home uses, can easily transform a kilogram of plastic waste into a liter of oil, using about 1 kW·h of electricity but without emitting CO2 in the process. The machine uses a temperature controlling electric heater instead of flames, processing anything from polyethylene or polystyrene to polypropylene (numbers 2-4).

Comment: 1 kg of plastic produces one liter of oil, which costs $1.50. This process uses only about 1 kW·h of electricity, which costs less than 20 cents!

Since most plastic is made from oil, it seems like this could be true. But what does this article mean by "oil?" Is this kerosene, diesel, 30W50, 87 octane unleaded gasoline, etc.? My suspicion is that more refining is needed to get auto fuel.

Something to keep in the back of your mind.

I could have sworn this was a repost until I found it on EcoRenovator. Its pretty cool IMO. Better than throwing plastic into a landfill!

There are diesel that burn heavyweight fuel oil, it would be awesome to fuel them with recycled plastics !
