Coolest wooden bicycle ever

Check it out! http://www.leevalley.com/newsletters...3/article1.htm

Built by a 16 year old, pretty darn cool. Too bad he didn't go for spokes as well,

That is a pretty sick bicycle. I've tried some small wood projects and I can never do very well. I find it amazing someone can do this.

That is a very good accomplishment and show of skill for mere wood working - at first i thought he used screws or something on the chain but now i see it's wooden pegs. Well done. I wouldn't trust the breaks at high speeds (and if you go too fast then can the wheel axels catch on fire?) but it is Very nicely built. He could have quite a future in carpentry, but the brains he used in making that could go to much better use.

lol, no kidding, I'd be making a fixie in a heartbeat. Would'a saved him a lot of time with that freewheel ratchet.

That being said, he did an AMAZING job with it. That chain alone is just amazing.

Try this: http://www.manytracks.com/Recumbent/treebike.htm

The guy uses lots of metal to get things done, but evidently doesn't have a welder. So his 'bent's backbone is a hollow box truss made of spruce and plywood.

I love seeing this do-it-yourself stuff.

As Thoreau said:
"There is some of the same fitness in a man's building his own house that there is in a bird's building its own nest. Who knows but if men constructed their dwellings with their own hands, and provided food for themselves and families simply and honestly enough, the poetic faculty would be universally developed, as birds universally sing when they are so engaged? But alas! we do like cowbirds and cuckoos, which lay their eggs in nests which other birds have built, and cheer no traveler with their chattering and unmusical notes. Shall we forever resign the pleasure of construction to the carpenter?"
