Craziest thing you have heard?

Girl, maybe 18 - 22 just told one of my coworkers she only buys premium gas cause the cheap stuff has too much dirt in it.

What crazy car/mpg related stuff have you heard?

Sure you can. But some of them might self-destruct.

Well, it brings to mind an old joke about some nuns who ran out of gas, but I don't know whether anyone wants to hear it...

We have a politician here who claims that "Fuel consumption decreases with speed: The faster a vehicle gets to its destination, the less time it has to use fuel."

You'd think that a presidential candidate would know at least some physics? Nah!!

My top 10 list (tonight):
  1. HHO gas improves mileage
  2. magnets on the fuel line align the molecules to improve mileage
  3. metal vanes inside the air cleaner improves mixing and mileage
  4. a resistor connected to the air temperature sensor improves mileage
  5. acetone in the gas improves mileage
  6. Hummer has lower lifetime cost per mile than a Prius
  7. Prius is a marketing success and loses money
  8. Hybrids are deadly to pedestrians
  9. <any_one_trick_pony> is better than a Prius
  10. The word "Green" is enough to make <piece_of_crap> successful
Sorry if I seem a little bitter but since 2005 . . .

Understand I enjoy Ecomodder projects as folks here make a serious effort to measure their mods. Many of these projects have credible physics and engineering behind them and the testing is true because sometimes they don't work out. What I can't stand is the hubris of those who should know better and thieves with a keyboard.

My boss told us the other day, to "debunk" a statistic someone said about 1000lbs weight lowering MPG by X amount.... that his truck alone or his truck towing a trailer with 5 sleds on it, gets identical MPG. I LOL'd inside (but I think the others possibly believed him).

Diesels are so polluting.

Just cause you can't see it (co, etc) doesn't mean it isn't killing you.
