Rünge Cars

Beautiful metal work. Someday I hope to be a practical, high FE, version this artist. When I grow up.

“He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands, his head, and his heart is an artist.”

My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Yeah I was disappointed by that too. But don't fail to appreciate how cool some of the other features are, such as the light weight aluminum materials, the small frontal area, and the small engine. And the metalworking looks great. But six figure sales prices? Really?

When everything is made by hand, it's expensive. I used to work as an organ builder; just about everything in a pipe organ is still handmade. Organs are sized by "rank," which is one row of pipes spanning the compass of the keyboard, and the ballpark pricing is around $30,000 per rank. A typical moderate-size church organ is usually around 30 ranks, which will still take upwards of two years to build by 10 or so people. Even though the price seems astronomical, no one's getting rich off it because the money all goes into materials and time.

Stale aerodynamics?

The Frankfurt Flyer series was supposed to evoke an era. If you want modern surface development, there is the Runge R2:

Comparable work is done by the Blastolene Brothers and Ron Covell

Nice. He makes these car to order. Imagine if someone had the cash and the desire to order a ultra low drag design. If only I had a fortune...

That is great instruction. His "rough, rough" cardboard template is better than many of my final executions have been. Iterations... must remember iterations. Episodes 67 and 68 of the Cars Yeah Podcast are an interview with Rünge. The interviewer is a little hokie sometimes but Rünge's story is pretty good: https://carsyeah.com/interviews/
