A hitch mount has no resistance to yaw forces. Consider the single wheel trailers with their aligned hinges.

I've been thinking about the spare and boat tail. Suppose you had a [demountable] hinged Continental kit. Upright it would be like many others, but pull a pin and swing it down and it becomes a rubber bumper inline with the bumper's mounting bolts.

So far so good. But... there could be pins on the top of the spare tire mount that run in tracks up and down the backside of a Kamm truncation plate. That would need it's own 4-bar for positioning and a fabric shell or telescoping Armadillo plates.

My Superbeetle has a Bug Bearer bike rack from the 1960s. I made custom bumper mounts to rigidify it, but it lifts right off.
