destiny
I know the topper will affect mpg but it’s what I was looking for to fulfill my desire to spend time in the wilderness. I’m 58 , had diabetes since 13, suffer from mental issues and am going through a divorce for the 3rd time. It’s important to keep it and figure out different methods of efficiency.

I'm thirty years older and everyone thinks I have mental isssues (especially Xist; and excepting me); I was kicked out of the gene pool after my first marriage.
Anyway, you could slant chop that sucker in the back lot of a big box store. Assuming you don't need the headroom in back of course. Your paradigm would be the Camperworld race truck spoiler's height.
Maybe start by stuffing a pool noodle between the cab and topper?

Wouldn't be my first choice for stealth-camping, but I like the idea

not stealth
I am planning on going to Big Bend here in Texas. I won’t be doing any stealth camping in it. Would like to stay at least a week at a time.

So, are you not willing to place some amenities on the truck, protected by a camper shell, in order to be eventually able to camping without the need for a tent?

I'd want to graft in the rear hatch from a Dodge Magnum. It would make a better 'front door' and could support an awning. They go for $200-250.
