Did Bob the Stuffmaker invent an easy way to build geodesic domes?

His kids play soccer and practice goals are lame, so he thought of 3d-printing pieces to connect conduit and thought it was a great system for making all kinds of things. He thought it worked great for a practice goal, but one subordinate made a magazine holder, and another made an adjustable studio light:

That's like the size of a hockey goal, not a soccer goal.

Clickbait title!

Nothing about geodesics.

I prefer 1 1/8th" Cyclone Fence top rail to EMT tubing.

I don't use a saw since I got a pipe cutter. It leaves a finished edge.

At ?t=519 he's hand drilling a piece of pipe freehand 4ft off the ground and he has a bright idea to print a jig. At ?t=597 one can see a drill press n the background.

The clips he 3D printed could be fabbed by cutting lengths of PVC pipe and slotting them into a C-profile, then connecting them with super glue/baking soda fillets.

With that out of the way:

The problem with geodesics is that the number of hubs goes up geometrically with higher frequency (rounder). Lots of printing, should you choose.

Here's a page of 3D printable geodesic hubs: thingiverse.com/search?q=geodesic+dome+hubs&sort=relevant

Most likely:

I didn't write much, but I wrote "Practice soccer goal" twice.

One could use this to make a full-sized one.

Bob, for years now I’ve been fascinated by those geodesic patio domes. I think this system would work really well for building one of those affordably! Would love to see a video on that sometime in the future

I didn't listen, only scrubbed through the video. I'm not impressed that someone made brackets and bent some metal to make a net too small to practice for soccer. I feel like such a small goal could be bought for like twenty bucks on Amazon, and delivered before the 3D printer could finish printing the brackets.

What did I miss? I scrubbed through it.

I saw some plastic brackets, saw a girl too small to bend metal barely accomplish bending metal, and then not a soccer goal as the end result.

If you weren't just looking for argumentation, you'd respond to my relevant, linked and cited response.

BTW, you can see the knucklehead's drill press in the thumbnail. I bought some drill bits that will throw 2" long swarf in my drill press, but in a hand drill they just snap in half.

Shame on me for not reading the comments after I'd wasted time on the video.

No part of this has any application. The ground anchors especially are ineffectual and unsuitable.

Hate to say this but i have seen this as a kit form, just add whatever pipe to appropriate fitting maybe 3 years ago. City built a bunch on construction sites for storage of stuff needing to stay dry like road salt

Commercially-available practice goals are lame, so he made his own, which he likes much better.
We will see how it holds up.

Tell the commenter who wondered publicly!

I cannot imagine taking ground anchors designed for maybe an hour or two of use and using them for a semi-permanent building.
