With a diesel, I would want to maximize airflow through the engine, and work for economy with aerodynamics, narrower profile, higher pressure tires, and driving habits. Anything that would restrict flow through the engine would cause less efficiency of the engine and higher heat. My cummins puts out 305 horsepower and 600lb/ft of torque. I don't always need that power, but if I keep my foot out of the throttle, it isn't using it...or the fuel.
