DIY engine stop/start, with clutch + throttle switch restart

clutch and gas needed for restart. if u stall the engine with the feet on them, the starter kicks in. in case of engie trouble one can even drive a short way electrically.

Have you ever considered trying to add some mild-hybrid ability to that?

no, not with the starter...

Sure it wouldn't feel so comfortable to do so with that stock starter. If a starter-generator similar to the ones used in some small aircraft wasn't so expensive, that would probably make it easier to add some mild-hybrid ability to an older car. Or that BAS-Hybrid setup used by GM.
