DIY: Tesla battery on a trailer doubles EV range, despite extra 1000 lbs

This is awesome:

(Screen shot from video, below.)

A RAV4 EV owner hacked a wrecked RAV to scavenge its battery pack & supporting structure to mount on a trailer to pull behind his car.

(We're talking about the most recent RAV EV, the joint partnership where Tesla guts went in a Toyota body. Not the old NiMH RAV.)

It's connected in parallel.

Highway range is about doubled.

Here's his build thread:

Correction - that appears to be adding extra cells within the vehicle. Same owner though.

Here's the discussion of his trailer:

When I put my empty flat bed trailer behind my leaf I lose about 10% of my range.

trailer-range

If the 2020 DARKO trip works out,we'll have numbers for a gap-filled,aero trailer, which could hold the extra pack.
It's not inconceivable,that the Model S,P-100 I drove,with an aero'd range-extender trailer,could well exceed 620-miles range.
