Do i accelerate fast or slow?

this may be a simple question to answer, maby not,, do i accelerate fast like 80% load over 5 secconds or do i accelerate slow like 60%load over 10 secconds , which yeilds the better MPG, i am in an automatic so RPMs arenet my concern,(obviously i want to keep them low) how can i find out what is more efficient ,, i have a SG but dont know how to use it to find best acceleration, perhaps some aba testing whatsyour best way to accelerate ?

Like Marge Simpson says on Whacking Day: Slow then fast!

Seriously- fast then ease into cruise speed.

ok so ill start accelerating a bit faster,, but in the city do i still accelerate quickly? chances are ill get up to speed then have to break , so it seems a slower pace would work better in the city,, or am i burning more fuel with my engine trying to level out through gears upshifting rather then holding a constant speed as soon as i can. in other words am i burning more fuel accelerating slowly light to light? or am i burning more fuel accelerating quick then holding a constant speed asap.. thanks so much for the help man

Go fast in the city aslong as you coast into the next light, trick is how fast is fast enough to not stop. Gun it hard then coast. City version of pluse and glide. Brakes bad

The consensus around here is that the way you accelerate has little bearing on your economy. I tested different acceleration methods with my Toyota Matrix here:
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...rix-27152.html

What really matters is the way you slow down. Drive as if your brakes don't work. I repeat: avoid using your brakes (and engine braking, for that matter) at all cost.

Nice data, can't believe I missed it, my seat of the pants feel I aim for 3000 rpm shift points with the Stratus, Impala, and gone 3.1v6 malibu. Too slow with auto trannys they just spin lots of fluid. Sometimes feels a little fast for the 3.5v6 impala but the torque convertor is so loose (high stall speed) that better go than make heat.

Agree the best gains are on the other end.

Best to watch the gauges and try it. Many use to baby the 2nd gen insight and later we discovered you can be quite aggressive with it and not hurt your mpg.
