Don't forget about the front of your car!!!

As proven in the Alpina C1 the front of your car is just as important as the back of your car. Taking the e30 body and doing nothing to the back, only the duckbill on the front, and getting a remarkable 105.72 mpg Imperial average. This is remarkable because the e30 is not aerodynamic at all. It is very boxy and rigid, not a single smooth edge on that car.

The amazing mpg was achieved in 1981 by the Aplina team in a 318I and a stock engine. There is not a huge amount of info about this car but here is a short Jalopnik write up about it.

105.72 miles per (imperial) gallon, is 88mpg (US) which is still pretty good.

The question in my mind is how much of this result was because of front end aerodynamics, and how much was from tuning the engine for optimal highway driving MPG?

Instead, they came up with an aerodynamic (and probably detuned) 318i, which won its category by doing 105.72 miles per (imperial) gallon.

*Fuel economy measured over 1 km. Additional modifications included cooled EGR, cylinder deactivation, and single powered drive wheel.

105 mpg

So we're talkin' burn and coast, from a top speed of 20-mph down to 3-mph,then bumping the clutch to restart the engine? On a closed course, level course, windless course, dry course, smooth course, virtually zero curve resistance?
The Geo Metro XFi and Honda VX will do (have done this at U.C.Davis,California) this under the same conditions.
Beware the 'contextual' report!
Also, consider how long that nose would last in the real world.
Here are your minimums
