The 2.6 came in 2 bell housing, basicly a car and truck versions. Ive found some posts about converting from a to b . There is a decant aftermarket for the 2.6L as all the boltons are the same on the Eclipse, and a van as well. . If I get rambunctious at some point I may endup throwing turbo head fuel injection intake and brain in it to play with lean burn by fiddleing with a VGT turbine (similer to altitude compensation on an airplaine). But for now Ill run scarecrow(with out a brain)
What do they go for down there? Found a pair of diesel D50s on Seattle Cragslist for 3500usd for runners 1 pretty one ugly duck, wile figuring out what Iwas going to do.
Past salt damage was from its location. The Grate Salt Lake Basin . The salt flats get stirred up and dusty preceding a storm. I've been there for a storm front, massave wall of salty dust roling through covering every thing with salt . It was almost as bad as a middle east sand storm. Then the rain rinses the salt down into all the body cracks in cavities to make sure is good and coated thoroughly. Not to mention things that they do to their roads trauma I mean what is the Salt Lake known for having plenty of? Salt.
As to future curent salt damage the land that I'll be doing projects on is 18' above a salt flat but several 100 feet below the high water mark. Extremely salty , salt crusted dirt. Dig 2.5' to hit water table, at the end of the dry season 4' with a specific gravity well over 1.030 higher than salt water in the ocean the only native plant to his land is Salt Sage and it is sparce.

I actually am not so up-to-date to the prices of the equivalent Mitsubishi L200, but usually an older car may cost at least twice what a similar one would in America. BTW back here I only see the Diesel versions.

Can't you get a 4WD oil sump (or eventually make a custom one) to overcome this clearance issue?

Such a small rig could be fun with a 4BT, but absolutely nose-heavy. Maybe that 3.3L engine that Cummins outsources from Komatsu could be a better fit, even though due to emission laws it would become nearly impossible to register your truck with a Cummins swap (unless you could get that R2.8 crate engine which is still too expensive).

2wd Vs 4x4
2wd/car =6.125" index 12.25" narrow block cross the lower bolts at crankshaft Centerline
4x4 =6.75" index 13.25" wide block(same as Mitsubishi diesel)
Results un the bolts over lapping . This requires in an adapter thicker than the stick out on the trans input shaft.(results in no pilot bearing support, a no go).
Emissions
If you put every soul in Montana in one place we wouldn't have enough people to pollute the air badly enough to need diesel smog requirements. . Solved.
Nose heavy
Cab set back to ficilitate a more proper 40/60% (fore /aft ) CG. Plus longer/better nose fineness raito.

Nowhere to go but an EV-conversion.

Maybe a VW TDI swap could be an option too.

200mi min range is the biggest deterrent. VA has no place to plug-in so round trip range is required. Absolute min 76mi each way (door to door)+ 25mi for extra load caused by snow/slush 4H and 4Low extra loads. As well as Zero motorcycle dealer in Missoula Montana advised " Do not consider getting a Zero for winter use in Butte Montana because it gets too cold to charge the current lithium technology batteries without taking the vehicle indoors" to Boot sleeping in your car while it takes 12-18 hours to charge it at colder than -20°F can be life-threatening. Lacking infrastructure for plug in teck. As well as 4x4 in off the shelf pre built.
I'm tempted to do a series hybrid take this 2.6 narrow block bolt it to a gen head direct wired to the motor and run it like a freight train locomotive lets turn this thing up to RUN 9... not shure it works like that.

If you could do something similar to a scaled-down version of that Wrightspeed setup it would be quite cool. Well, the cost of a microturbine might be deterrent to a similar approach, but anyway, it still seems like a smaller engine would make more sense than keeping the 2.6 in the truck (unless you attempted something similar to those Hino hybrid trucks).
