On the flip side, if you see a truck pulling a trailer thats booking it down the highway, get in behind him immediately and gun it into him. You can accelerate so fast way past 65mph with wind resistance like you're doing 45mph.

It might not save you gas, but i was thoroughly impressed from only drafting to maintain speed.

7 pages and no solid evidence? Ack! Come on! Scangauge your car at three seconds behind the trailer, two seconds, and so on. Obviously take some precaution as in don't do the test on a busy freeway.

What's two seconds, three seconds, etc.? How do you measure that on the highway? You can't.

You pick something stationary on the road or roadside- a sign for instance, or a paint segment- and count "thousand one, thousand two..." from when the back of the vehicle ahead of you passes it until you do.

i know mythbusters isn't always highly regarded here, but they did a segment on drafting semi's. IIRC, mpg increased somewhat exponentially as you got closer to the semi.

test vehicle was a dodge magnum and they measured the pulse width of the injectors as data.

Yea uh, "thousand one thousand two" is not a standard unit of time lol.

It's a very close estimate and better than nothing.

Counting off works quite well. And one needs to maintain a four second distance from any vehicle.

I find it best to use a CB and ask permission first before drafting. A CB really does not need much range when you are right next to them on the road. They are almost always cool with it.

Oh and i see huge gains with it. The best thing about it is high speeds without giving up MPG.
