Climate Data Comes From Weather Data

Scientists keep day-to-day weather statistics for 30 years in order to draw conclusions about local and regional climates. It is only when a location has 30 years of weather statistics that meteorologists can generalize and comment on the climate of a particular area. Overall then, the difference between weather and climate is time. Weather happens daily and climate happens over longer periods.

The Australian floods are not alone: Pakistan, Vietnam, and many places in the is country are all much more intense than we have seen. Super-storms where the winds are way above category 5, and with record low pressures are becoming more and more common.

Here's the warming trend I'm referring to:

Solar irradiation estimates from NOAA. First set here.

Total solar irradiance from 1855 AD to 1982 AD.

Second set here.

Total solar irradiance from 1852 AD to 2007 AD.

There, have some context.

There's also the other quote attributed to him that everybody talks about the weather, but nobody ever does anything about it.

I just read Neil's latest post with charts and graphs, and the persistent implication that 'the sky is falling!' He says there has been stormy weather in Pakistan and Vietnam. That's proof that the sky must be falling. Ask me if I care...

...when I was in Vietnam, both bombs and rain were falling...worried far more about the bombs than any rain, both then and now (wink, wink)!

The sky is always falling somewhere. To the locals it is the end of the world, yet somehow the world seems to continue to go on.

You may not, but the U.S. military does. Not that you should, I mean most people don't care about the same stuff the military does.

It's amazing how you can twist the meaning of what I wrote by taking my conclusion (at the end of my post) and reinterpreting it.

I don't care about Neil's charts and graphs.

I don't care about the weather in Vietnam and Pakistan.

I don't care about or believe that the myriad charts and graphs that are persistently shown here "prove" that the sky is falling - or that they have anything to do with Pakistani weather.

So what does the U.S. military have to do with my comments?
