I thought nitro methane was not soluble in gasoline. Or were they using alcohol to make the nitro methane mix with gasoline?

Turns out it's a bad idea.

Yes it mixes well with alky. It's measured out with a hydrometer not volume. You must be aware that most of the guys that really know nitro have paid for their education with broken parts. Even if you get their engine combinations and fuel curves and tune set ups, your going to break engines badly. It's just the nature of the fuel. First the Nitro is very expensive, then you have to optimize your engine to run any amount that would show you a gain. ... The more you use the lower the compression ratio needs to be. Temperature control to fuel ratio needs to be addressed. This is for smart guys with deep pockets,.. Even if you think just a little. you will find you keep tipping the cam saying that didn't do any thing, that didn't do anything, then OH OH that was too much. If you do try it Remember the first rule of Nitro, get engine hot then feed it all the fuel you can. You are never too rich, you just run out of heat, air or ignition. That sounds funny, but if you run out of fuel you will say ouch.

Yeah I know its expensive. The top fuel guys burn like $500 worth of fuel in one pass and that's the least expensive expenditure.
It seems that nitro methane and methanol mixes are very popular.

At the Bug Run one year, an AA Fuel Dragster did a single pass test run.

I was halfway down the track and didn't (or couldn't) turn my head fast enough -- it literally disappeared from my sight.
