I meant that you can do a lower gear more easily and not have to put out as much power. As mentioned above, e-bikes/trikes are an option as well. Hopefully your dog is rather small!

This is my dog:

A mixed-breed, presumably half Fox Terrier and half Miniature Pinscher.

In a trike like this one I could probably carry the dog on my lap, and still have some space to haul a few grocery bags.

In your lap, you'd probably be kneeing him/her the whole way.

I think you could probably put a little basket where that forward-most bag is for the dog, and some big panniers for groceries on the back.

Or, uh, "hybrid power"

She's small enough to be carried on my lap. And if she would feel uncomfortable, I guess she would wrap herself around my neck.

Great thread, I agree completely. When I was working at one place I enjoyed riding in the rain, go nice and slow with a good poncho and it is very peaceful and relaxing (particularly, going through the parks with the riding trails). Do get a gun to carry concealed though, it increases one's peace of mind, heh.

Conceal and carry... lol, yeah, on dangerous 14 Mile Road, where 2009 Malibus run free! Bicycling is relaxing enough without firearms.

I'm a long-time runner so one day per week I leave my truck at work and run home (13 miles). The next morning I get up a little early and ride one of my bikes in to work and toss the bike in the truck for the trip home. BOOM! Just ecomodded 20% off my weekly gasoline bill (but maybe added a buck or two to my food and water bill).
Riding 26 miles a day (to and from work) is just a little more than I want to do so once a week is good enough for me!

Sven,

You're my hero, and an inspiration as always. Loved your Anal Probe project, then your Hona project, but this one beats them all

I'm cycling a lot as well and one thing caught my attention. Your racks.

Could you please send me photos of the mounting points of these racks? I have frame with disk brakes and not mounting points at all. You have a very interesting setup, with rack supportorted on the wheel axles. Neat!

I'll look forward to hear from you.

Andrzej, thank you for the accolades! I had fun with the cars but feel more comfortable with this route. Simplifies my life, for sure.

Incidentally, I have the same rack problem as you. The solution?

Old Man Mountain racks mount through the QR skewer, so you can put them on any bike that has a quick release axle! It's a pain to take the wheels off, but the utility of the racks more than makes up for it.

First decent distance ride today in almost 50 years. 7 miles round trip, about 30 minutes time on the bike.

Fresh set of tires and SOFTER seat for me olde arse.

regards
