Elantra "eco?"

I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra SE that I'm wanting to try to get a few more mpg out of. I don't do the hypermile stuff. I don't mind trying aero mods as long as they flow with the looks of the car. I've even thought about some steel wheels with solid wheel covers. My driving style is just normal I'd say. Right now with 50/50 driving it gets about 27-29 mpg, depending on how and what type of driving I've done on that tank. That's not horrible, but I'd like to see low to mid 30s with my driving. Thoughts?

Try replacing the fluids with the lowest viscosity stuff that still meets the Hyundai required specs. Amsoil isn't a bad starting point. Valvoline Maxlife ATF is usually really good in the transmission and available at Walmart.

Aero on the Elantra is decent. They did their homework. Maybe make a belly pan if you're motivated. Add a bit of extra air to your tires without going crazy and making the ride harsh.

If you can get the running temps down with lower viscosity fluids, you can pursue an upper grille block.

If you are thinking of wheels, go with the lightest ones you can find to reduce rotational mass and get some low rolling resistance tires.

There's a couple of things...

adjust your driving so you need brakes as little as possible. It'll help a lot.

Thanks. The oil is already 5w20, so I don't think I can go any thinner. I thought about replacing the 16" wheels with some 15" wheels and using some skinnier tires that are the same diameter.

I also wonder what you guys think of the "eco" buttons in these cars. I've tried it both ways, with and without, and I don't think I could tell a difference in the mpg number. If there was, it was very small. Small enough to be unnoticeable. The only difference I did definitely notice, was that it neutered the gas pedal a bit. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I will also mention one more thing...

This use to be my wife's car, but it became mine when we traded my Civic for her new HRV. What's funny is, my driving style is already netting 2-3 more mpg than hers ever did. I keep track of it on Fuelly, so I know.

Not sure if I should actually do this question, but is it an automatic, right?
