So my new job is in a place that is very hard to get to:
- Public transport requires train+bus+tram+900m walk. Over 1.5 hours.
- Bicycling is 26km and takes 90 minutes (compared to previous office 21km in 55-60min).
- Car - highway with lots of traffic. If I'm lucky, then 20-30 minutes, but during rush hour more like 40-60min.
Looks like I won't be able to do without the car during bad weather, but on the dry days I would like to bike as much as possible.
Family proposed I get an e-bike, but I do not want to resign from the joys of unassisted (when the battery is charged) and unhindered (when the battery is discharged) pedalling.
I REALLY do not want to be fighting any motors if something goes wrong.
So I thought about motors which are not permanently in the hub or in the support, but which push against the tire, like the example below:
If it breaks, or the battery dies, then I can lift it from the tire so it does not add drag.
Anyone have any experience with these? Any feedback?
