I think things like Ben's 300mpg.org build your own electric car DVD is also a good start, it makes the average person feel like it's something they can have and build.
But starting off with showing them how much fun they are, or just letting people go for a ride in one.
So many people see my electric car and ask how I could own an electric vehicle because "they were all recalled and crushed"... um, no, a few of them were but not all of them, not even close!

I think if we are gather all ideas in the one place, then if everyone of us will implement at least one of them in your local area, we will make lot of difference!
… and main stream media attention.
I am looking to organize EV drag racing on the Palm Beach International Raceway and our customer that ordering Porsche 912 interesting to participate...

Cheers!

Hey Ryland,

I'll be putting my EV on the road this summer, and kind of trying to get people to take a ride. I'm glad to see that someone else in the neighborhood has the same idea! I'm thinking I know your dad, I think I worked on his VW many years ago.

I noticed that the remaining Zenn in Santa Cruz was advertised $2000 less yesterday. I read further that it needs batteries, and they would install brand new ones for just $2000. Very promotional.

I had a City-EL 48V 3--wheel. Disaster keeping it running without an Electric Doctorate Degree. Parts, distant manufacturer, tires not allowed in the US. I sold it, and sure enough; it broke down immediately.

What did work was my E-Pod hub motor in 2007. The 5 little clutches in the planetary are slipping now- over 3 years later. 36V on a much smaller scale than my City-EL. Still holds cruising speed with a slight acceleration slip;.

EV racing has been around for 20 years or more, EV drag racing is starting to gain some ground on the west coast but there are only a few people doing it, so I'm not sure how much either of those is going to get people in to electric cars.

The last time I had my electric car at the Mid West Renewable Energy Fair I gave a handful of people rides and offered up a ride in their silent auction, bids only got as high as $5 per ride but the people who went were thrilled, had lots of questions and said that they were going to look in to getting an electric car of their own because they enjoyed the silence, how clean it is and simple it was.
As I see it, you just have to get people in electric cars and before you know it they want one, that is the same reason why I'm building an electric motorcycle, I took one for a ride and I had to have one of my own.

Hey I think I've gotten a new idea based on your experience to do fund raising based on the EV ride and then Promote EVs on Fund Raisers Website...

I checked with my car insurance and they didn't have an issue with me giving rides, or with people paying for the rides as long as I was not getting any of the money and that is exactly what was going on, the silent auction was part of a fund raiser where they were selling donated goods and services, I was a little surprised that the bids topped out at $5, but it's not like my EV is super fancy or anything.
The only issue that I had was that because it was a public even they did not want me driving in and out of the event, so the rides were offered as the main event was ending, this is a common request of event organizers.
