electrical fuel gauge

i am building an electric car in the spring and am getting all the pieces together that i can think of from all you guys that i kinda know (of).
i received my fuel gauge in the mail today no paperwork. sigh. it has + and_ on the back and 2 joints soldered on the back also labeled c and r . you cant add any wires to c or r without solder so im guessing you dont hook that to anything but do you just hook it to the 144 pack without a shunt.. or do you need the shunt or something.. im not smoking it to find out. also i thought i knew how to get around on hear NOPE! lols on me i cant figure so pardon me. who am i well ive talked to paul tryed to talk to ben (thats never going to happen) and jake is building me a controller.

Welcome to the site redfox. Where did you buy your fuel gauge from, and what make/model is it?

Alright, what you have is basically a voltmeter. You'll just hook that up to the + and - to your pack and you'll be set. You'll want it on switched power of course so it doesn't stay on all the time.
