The thing I love about electric cars lately is not just the performance, which of course is absolutely stellar, but that manufacturers are starting to go bonkers on the styling. In a very very good way, in my opinion.

I mean, just LOOK at the new Mercedes Silver Arrow concept. Holy crow.
Gotta say, my Leaf with its measly 100ish horsepower is plenty peppy for daily driving.

It's also pretty telling that electric cars are spanking internal combustion ones, where ICE has had more than a century of development, and electrics have really only been focused on for maybe 20ish years, outside of hobbyists and industrial applications. Looking forward to the options in another 10 years or so.

What the ICE competition is up to:

Last I'd heard, 200+mph quarters was Top Fueler territory. The turbo inlet reminds me of aerohead's T-100.

Holy moly, that Nova had my attention. Not as fast as this completely insane Supra, but the stance on it. Whew.

My guess is an EV could compete with these cars pretty soon. I should calculate the amount of energy needed to complete 1/4 mile plus drag/losses. I wonder if supercaps could store enough energy for that?

Crazy this guy ran the quarter that quickly on 7/8ths of an engine.

Well there is a EV that beats that Supra but it's the king of drag racing Bid Daddy's latest Swamp Rat. I think he's running under 7.3 secs.

That's pretty cool Don Garlits is going EV. That's like Richard Petty running an electric Nascar.

Where electrics don't choke

In the anything-goes Unlimited Division, where the most exotic specifically-built combination of aerodynamics, powerplants, drivetrains and race car engineering to conquer 12.42 miles of asphalt paved sections, winding through 156 turns, grades of 7.2 percent and an elevation change of 4,720 ft, The Race to the Clouds. Winningest WRC rally champion Sebastien Loeb's insane and iconic Peugeot 208 T16 set the world record run at Pike's Peak Hill Climb in 8:13.878 minutes!
After withdrawing from motorsports, Volkswagen's return debuted with the Volkswagen ID.R at Pikes Peak. In June 24, 2018, driven by Romain Dumas, their goal was to beat the existing electric car record of 8:57.118 minutes of the Drive eO PP100. The VW ID.R broke that record and Loeb's record, it set the new time of 7.57.148 minutes beating the previous all-time record by over 15 seconds! The elevation change robs power from all kinds ICE exotica, losing up to 30% of their starting line power as the air grows thin.
Where electrics never starve for oxygen.

The ID.R has set a number of records, including Pikes Peak, and the Goodwood hillclimb. It came close on the Nürburgring - it set the electric car record, and is second only to the fastest, which is the Porsche hybrid Le Mans championship car.
