We certainly SHOULD see side video mirrors way before we see autonomous cars. There would be significant benefit from video mirrors, and they can be made robustly.

I had a cam on the back of a travel trailer. It worked well on a dry sunny day but was challenged by rain on the camera, and night.

I expect the law will delay this development, just as it screws up everything else.

Bring 'em on!
Also significantly reduces the noise level inside the cabin since you are eliminating a potent wind noise generator located about 2 feet from your ear on the other side of the glass. That was the first thing I noticed when I got rid of the aerocivic's external side mirrors. Also made it a lot easier to get close to the mailbox when picking up the mail.

AeroCivic mirror delete

I can definitely understand that.
In '91,when I ran the CRX at Bonneville, they made you run with the windows up.
She went about 98-mph,and between the salt surface and aero kit, with mirror delete,it was like driving in a Bentley or something.Just floated along over the salt.I had to restore the mirrors for the rest of the trip, but it was never as serene again,as it was on the salt.
I'll bet AeroCivic is zero stress,noise-wise.She's got nothing to perturb the air.

When I'm riding my bicycle down the sidewalk near here, the left lane traffic is pushing a probably 35mph speed limit and ambulances, for instance, seem to crowd the curb with big mirrors hanging out.

So I hear them going by about 2-3 feet from my head, with no glass.

I bought spare mirrors for my 01 civic to cut down and make block off plates as well as add cameras. Id like a monitor just inside each door. Anyone have feed back on a good set up with 4" monitors and cameras that I can run on all the time?
