Engine On Coasting and Effects on an Automatic Transmission

I am new to the forums and have just been experimenting with Engine On Coasting, just bumping to neutral and back. It has helped significantly, combined FE went from 38 to 42.25 on my last tank!

Here's my question: will shifting to neutral and back into drive regularly cause premature wear on the transmission or prolong its life since it will be disengaged more often.

I put 200,000 miles in an Infiniti Q45 using Engine on Coasting. Had no issues with the tranny.

I think a VW will have no problem. MY girlfriends Jetta doesn't mind at all. Try to rev match if you feel it slip a little.

I've got an Infinity QX4 that I do that with all the time. No problems yet!
