Gotta love the NOx emissions, too! Most of the numbers they report are in the ~0.4 g/mile range. Modern (Tier 2) standard is 0.07 g/mile over the same cycle (FTP 75).

Ah, those were the days.

In Brazil it was usual to retrofit the C10 with the Perkins 4.203 engine right after the 73' oil crisis, returning 23 to 30 MPG.

FWIW my '72 Pinto with 1.6L FOB engine & 4-speed manual transmission got 36 mpg with 3.18:1 axle ratio, electronic ignition, header exhaust, and front chin spoiler--obviously NOT stock.
