ethanol and carbs?

just a quick thought, but if someone had a carb'ed car and mixed ethanol and gas in the right percentage, could you lean the mixture out to the point just above where fe would go down? i know adjusting the mixture would do the same thing but...

Ethanol has less heat potential than gasoline. I believe around 25% less. You can lean the mixture out by adding alchohol, but I don't think your MPG will go up at all. Tuning your carb is a better idea.
