Are the newer HX Honda's still lean burn, or are they just more efficient in other ways?

Pretty sure this would be a lean burn model except for the California ECU.

That's awesome. Maybe someday I'll still get my hands on a lean burn Honda. For now I'm running a Camry with an auto because it was cheap and should be reliable.

I think it was only the fifth generation lean burn VX that had a non-lean burn ECU for California. Thereafter, beginning the 1996 model year, Honda lean burn engines were acceptable in California and Honda did not produce a Cali-specific, non-lean burning ECU. The sixth and seventh generation HX (1996-2005) had lean burn nationwide, as did the first gen Insight (2000-2006).

BTW, this looks like a stellar example of this car. Some smart person in LA should go look it over. If it is what it says it is, and it seems on the up-and-up, it is a nice little ride with lots and lots of use still in it.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
