EVs at LeMons Races
How long will it be before there are commonly EVs at LeMons? Even winning?
This article from the NYT on Sept 3 discusses EVs at LeMons and the EVWest "electraliner" record setting run at Bonneville recently. It is a good story. Example: "Mr. Hilleman won a Lemons event in 2017 in a 10-year-old Prius hybrid. “There is no enjoyment in life greater than passing a Mustang on the outside of the carousel at Sears Point in a Prius,” he said."
The article notes the challenges and discusses some of the rules, technology, and prospects for EVs at LeMons events:

To race a road course you will be running some where around 1 to 2 miles per kwh, best case scenario.
At 94mph my leaf sucks down close to 1 kwh per mile.
So you could be burning through 50 kwh per hour easy.
Doesn't seem practical now.

One of the futures of racing is there in those cars. That whine of the motors... the capacity for sliding and wheel spin... the acceleration in a small package... eventually this just has to become commonly accepted as one of the coolest types of racing platforms. Racers love speed and here's lots of it.

The sound is important. Yamaha makes musical instruments so they understand.
