[QUOTE=QuickLTD;190256]An easily overlooked part of the Daytona/Superbird aero pkg. The rear window has been pushed out to the body lines.

I have always been intriqued by thre reverse scop over the fender.
I wonder if there is excess air building up in the fender well from the front nose??

Want retro? What was good then, must be still good today.
HPP, a company that makes Superbird body style conversions. Looks so much like movie 'Cars', Dinoco's Strip Weathers aka The King!!
Also want a 2011 Firebird? See their 2010 SEMA offerings.

My reading indicates that they had a problem with interference of some kind in the race cars when they were lowered and running on the high banking of one of the test tracks. So they added that scoop to the base car, and started telling people it was to let the air out of the wheel wells.

I don't know how true the account I was reading actually was though...

This image seems to show very full wheel wells at the front, could also suggest the scoops remove air for coolling of the brakes.

Except, do NASCAR cars use brakes except on pit stops ?

Confirmed. NASCAR-configured Daytonas and Superbirds cutout the hood tops and capped them with top flare covers. The aggressive deep bank racing bottoms out the available suspension travel, needing that extra tire clearance. The street cars just homologated those vestigial parts, for reproduction detail.
