Fast warm up ideas: oil pan immersion heater

Are you goig to do a bench run ,with frozen oil to verify that the increased viscosity will not have an insulating effect?

The oil would have to be so cold it would need to be like honey or maybe even thicker. You would have to use real thick oil when it's really cold out to have to worry about that.

I do see -40°f in Montana. seen sub 0 in CA, OR, NV, WA ID,AND KS ,the many missing from list are those I have not lived in and had personal experience. Every state I have lived in so far this is a valid concern. At -4 oil is aproxamitly 4X thicker than honey kept in the fridge.

About the only time I use 15w-40 is during the summer before a road trip.
Other wise I will run 5w-40 and I keep some 0w-20 to top off the oil when it gets real cold.

My stock oil cooler wet the bed ... blew 2.5 ga of oil into the coolent. Ugg.. well got a chance to studdy the passages. Flow is : oil pump , heat exchanger , oil filter , turbo/block. Sence I've mesured at many different operating temps from 100°f - 185°f at all points the IR temp gun said oil and water are a dead match with the digital coolent temp gauge,however the block was considerably cooler then oil or water.

This is making me reconsider the probe placement(was going to put it in the filter head) of my planned dedacated oil temp gage.
